Writing is one of the central means through which scholars across disciplines disseminate their work. Yet, it is often hard to find time and space to write when teaching, mentorship, service and personal responsibilities are already competing for one’s limited time. The Provost’s Faculty Affairs team is again hosting its Faculty Writing Communities program. This program is designed to offer faculty a dedicated time, space and community to enable focus on writing, as well as an opportunity to reinforce commitment and accountability in the writing process.

The program consists of several communities, each with twelve faculty, that meet in person for two hours each week in a dedicated on-campus space throughout the semester. Faculty are grouped into communities based on the date / time that they choose out of those offered. The days and times for the Fall 2026 Writing Communities are as follows:

  • Tuesday 1-3 p.m.
  • Wednesday 9-11 a.m.
  • Thursday 9-11 a.m.
  • Thursday 1-3 p.m.
  • Friday 9-11 a.m

Applicants must be:

  • Tenured, Tenure-track, or Professional-track faculty of any rank who meet the following criteria:
    • Have a benefits-eligible appointment at UT during the current academic year

During the application process, interested faculty will be asked to rank order the possible community meeting times based on the faculty member’s availability and preference. Interested faculty will also be asked to provide a very short description of the writing project(s) on which they will be working during this program.

Decisions about participation will be made on a first-come first-served basis determined by scheduling availability. Faculty selected into a Writing Community are expected to commit to attending their community’s meeting day and time throughout the semester.

Tenured, Tenure-track, and Professional-track faculty.
